Frankstown Rd @ Verona Rd – Vehicle accident with injuries

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, Stations 225 and 227 were called for a vehicle accident with injuries in the intersection of Frankstown Rd and Verona Rd. 227 Rescue responded to the scene and found a two (2) vehicle accident with one (1) vehicle still in the roadway with fluids on the ground. Rescue crews assisted EMS with packaging and extricating the patient from their vehicle into EMS care. Fluids were contained and the vehicle was then removed from the roadway.

Today was a busy day for the members of St.227 responding to 7 calls for service, while actively participating in the PHVFD “Fill The Boot” drive.  Thanks to all the members that assisted.  And a special thank you to everyone that donated!

1509 Hunter Rd – Vacant Residential Structure Fire

On Thursday, shortly before 11:30pm.  Stations 224, 223, 222, 285, 227 were alerted for a residential structure fire.  221 Chief arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire in a detached garage and the main house.  227TK arrived on scene and units pulled two (2) attack lines.  227 Chief held all firefighting efforts to the exterior of the building.  Crews knocked down the bulk of the fire in the garage area.  223EN secured a water supply to 227TK.  224 Chief arrived on scene and assumed incident command.  222 laddered the building.  224, 223, 285 assisted with extinguishment.  No injuries were reported.  The Penn Hills Fire Marshal & the Allegheny County Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.

444 Wildwood Ave – Physical Rescue

Around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Stations 285, 227 and 222 were requested by EMS to assist with lighting and extrication of a patient that had fallen over a hillside and into a creek. 285 Engine arrived on scene with 227 Rescue shortly behind. 285 Assistant Captain requested 227 Rescue crew to bring a stokes basket and rope to package the patient for extrication from the creek. Crews worked for about 5-10 minutes to successfully remove and transfer the patient over to EMS care. Great quick work to all.

Truck 227 Back In Service

On Friday, Truck 227 went back in service after being out of service for five (5) day getting its yearly safety certifications.  Truck 227 was given a clean bill of health is back assisting the residents of Penn Hills.

Yearly Safety Certifications:

  • PA State Inspection
  • Pump Certification Test
  • Aerial Certification Test
  • Pierce Class 1 Safety Certification (Bolts that hold the aerial to the chassis are re-torqued factory specifications)

36 Petermans Ln – Physical Rescue

On Sunday afternoon, Stations 227 & 223 were alerted for a physical rescue.  227RQ arrived on scene and found an elderly male had accidental rolled his riding lawn mower over a hillside.  The patient was stabilized and was moved to the awaiting PHEMS unit.  The patient was transported to a local trauma center with non life threatening injuries.

Old Wm Penn Hwy @ Thompson Run – Water Rescue

On Sunday Rescues 227, 222, 223 were alerted to the intersection for a pedestrian vehicle stuck in rising flood waters.  227Chief & 227SS arrived on scene and assisted the driver out of the vehicle.  The driver was not injured.  The roadway was shut down for about an hour till flood waters could recede.
