344 Rodi Rd – Accident w/Entrapment

On Thursday afternoon, Stations 227, 223, 222 were alerted for a MVA with possible entrapment in the area of 344 Rodi Rd.  227RQ arrived on scene.  Crews were able to force the door open by hand to get access to the patient.  227RQ assisted with patient care.  All other units were cancelled.  4 patients were transported to local hospitals with non life threatening injuries.  The roadway was reopened after being closed for about an hour.

294 Coal Hollow Rd – Vehicle Into Structure

On Wednesday evening Stations 222 and 223 were alerted for a vehicle into a structure at 294 Coal Hollow Rd.  PHPD arrived on scene and confirmed the vehicle into the structure.  Driver and homeowner were in the front yard uninjuried.  222RQ arrived on scene and cancelled all unit.  PH FIRE MARSHAL was notified.  222RQ requested 227RQ assist with stabilizing the structure.  Traffic was detoured while units were operating on scene.  A newer model sedan ran the roadblock.  PHPD were able to get the vehicle stopped.  After a field sobriety and blood test the driver was found to be intoxicated.

6659 Saltsburg Rd – Accident w/Entrapment

On Tuesday afternoon, Rescue Companies 223, 222, 227 were alerted for a 2 vehicle accident with entrapment. PHEMS arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment. 227RQ & 223EN arrived on scene. 223 began stabilizing the vehicle while 227 started to remove the drivers side door. 222 arrived and started fluid containment. Crews worked quickly to free the driver, after about 4mins the driver was free and in the care of PHEMS, and was transported to a local trauma center with non life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for about 45mins.

5571 Saltsburg Rd – Accident w/rollover

On Tuesday morning, Rescues 222, 227 were alerted for a single vehicle accident with rollover.  PHPD arrived on scene and found the driver out of the vehicle walking around.  227RQ arrived on scene and assisted with scene lighting and fluid containment.  222RQ assisted with debris on the roadway.

11690 Frankstown Rd – Vehicle Fire

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, Stations 225 and 227 were alerted for a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of the Vavoline. 227 Engine arrived to find a minivan with the fire located in the engine compartment. Crews made a quick knock on the fire and cleared the scene within half an hour.

10710 Frankstown Rd – Mercury Spill

On Monday afternoon Station 225, 227, 222 were alerted for a possible Mercury spill in the parking lot of Ritzland Plaza.  227RQ & 227TK arrived on scene and blocked off a small section of the parking lot till the substance could be identified.  After positively identifying the substance, crews started the long process to remove the materials.  After about 45mins crews had cleaned up the spill.  Allegheny County Health Department was contacted and arrangements were made to pick up the collected mercury.

11027 AZALEA DR – Residential Structure Fire

On Sunday evening, Stations 227, 222, 223, 225, 196 were alerted for a residential structure fire with entrapment in the 11000-blk of Azalea Dr.  227CHF arrived on scene with smoke and flames showing from the “B” side of the house.  227CHF and a PHPD ofc were able to drag the wheel chair bound patient out of the house.  While doing that crews encountered heavy hording conditions inside the house.   227TK arrived on scene and crews deployed two (2) attack lines.  Crews from all companies had to endure the extreme hording conditions while extinguishing the fire.  Crews operated on scene for about 2 hours.  One fire fighter was evaluated for a leg injury.  PHFM is investigating the cause of the fire.

8238 Lincoln Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Monday morning Stations 221, 225, 222, 227, 137 were alerted for a residential structure fire.  221EN arrived on scene with smoke showing.  227TK arrived on scene and set up on side “A” of the building.  Crews found a water condition in the basement, the water was coming in contact with electrical current causing smoke.  Power was terminated to the building.

113 Everglade Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Monday, Stations 227, 223, 222, 226, 196 were alerted for a deck & grill on fire at 113 Everglade Dr. PHPD arrived on scene and confirmed flames from the rear of the structure. 227TK arrived on scene and began deploying attack line to protect the neighboring structures. 223EN1 picked up the hydrant and established a water supply to 227TK. Crews from 227, 223, and 226 began an interior attack. Crews completed a primary and secondary search, while doing that they in-countered multiple ceiling collapses. No injuries were sustained. Crews from 222 extinguished hot spots in the rear of the structure. Cooling stations were set up for the fire fighters to combat the 90+ degree weather. All units did an excellent job, no injuries were reported. PHFM is investigating the cause of the fire.
